It's Timber Framing Weather.

With summer quickly approaching, building projects are starting to move along. Hopefully with the signs of nice weather comes more opportunities for all the trades. From the architects who help get the projects going with their drawings and plans, to the timber framers and carpenters who erect and finish the projects. Also, now that the nice weather has started to dry things out, the loggers can get back into the woods to supply the mills with the timber that we need to build the post and beam homes and barns that our clients have asked us to build.
Hope you all have a great summer.

I think it has arrived. Warm weather that is.

Well they are saying that warmer weather is coming for the weekend and I hope that they are right. If this is true then hopefully the mud will dry up, and jobsites will be a little easier to work in. Also, the loggers will be able to get back into the woods, and start getting new timber out for the mills. Lets hope all this starts a nice domino effect that will keep everyone, not just timber framers, busy for the rest of the year.

Mud Season has arrived

With the week of nice weather that we have had, it looks like we are starting that lovely time of year called mud season. I came to that conclusion yesterday when I took my yellow lab out for his daily training session, and he came home looking like a chocolate lab. I also spoke with one of our timber suppliers and he was telling me that most of the loggers are out of the woods now because of the soft ground. the good thing though is that at least with the better weather here, contractors can start putting in foundations, and timber frame houses can start going up. Here at VTW we have been busy with a couple of big frames that we are getting ready to send out and I will have pictures as soon as they are available. So with all that said i just have one more thing to say and that is, "come on summer time".

Where is the green grass and blue sky?

Just when I thought spring was on it's way, we received another snow storm. For once in my life I can honestly say that I am looking forward to mud season. I know our framers in the shop are starting to get that nice weather itch to get outside. I think that the week they were doing the erection down in NY really got them started on wanting the warmer weather to arrive. But being true New Englanders, the minute we are at a job site and the temperature is above 65 we will all be saying that we like doing the timber frame raisings in the fall. So I guess the only thing that we can do right now is to sit back and dream of working outside in the nice weather.

Now is the time

To make your plans for that new timber framed house that you have always wanted, a reality. With spring just around the corner, the timber framers here at VTW could be fabricating your frame and getting it ready for your site. With about a 14 week lead time we would probably miss mud season which is always a good thing here in the Northeast. Just think, by fall you could be sitting and relaxing in your new post and beam home. So lets dust off those plans that you have been dreaming about and give us a call here at VTW so that we can help you make this a reality.

Ski Season in Vermont

Well it looks like another great year for the skiers and snowboarders here in Vermont. With the snow that we have received already and the cold nights which make for great snow making, it looks like another good year. if you are coming from the south into Vermont, you are more than likely driving up I-91 and if so, take a minute to stop in at the Southern Vermont Welcome Center, just south of Brattleboro. This was fabricated and erected by our crew here at VTW, and is great example of the timber framed buildings that we do at VTW.
Enjoy the snow.

Mountaintop Sunrise

Having been at the Blackwood job site to help the crew erect some of Carols' frame, and to get a look at her timber framed barn all closed in, I can honestly say that I got to see one of the nicest sunrises ever. Despite the strong winds and the early morning cold, I could easily visualize sitting in the Great Room with a cup of coffee looking out over the mountains watching the sun rise. I think that when the boys have the erection all done, I am going to have to make another trip to the top of the mountain to see the frame completed, and hopefully to see another great sunrise.

Preparing a Timber Frame

Well, I finally got to go and help the crew start to put together a frame. with all the timbers on site,my first job was to find the matching timbers to the bents that we were putting together and either bring them to the deck or have our lift put them there. With all the timbers on the deck we would then start fitting them together, and when they were all in place we would go around and peg them together. Watching our crew of timber framers precisely assemble each bent in different sections of the deck so that the erection of the frame would go smoothly was impressive to see. I do hope that the owners of this timber frame home enjoy it as much as I did helping put it together.
